Surface Treatment Capabilities

Powder Coating

Durable, decorative finishes for industrial, appliance, and equipment applications. We manage color matching, texture specification, and film thickness verification against your approved sample. TGIC polyester and epoxy chemistries available for interior and exterior applications.

E-Coat (Electrophoretic Coating)

For programs requiring maximum corrosion protection — particularly structural steel components in harsh or outdoor environments — e-coat provides uniform coverage into recesses and complex geometry that powder coating can’t reach. Ideal for underbody, HVAC, and rail infrastructure components.

PVD Coating (Physical Vapor Deposition)

High-performance thin-film metallic finishes for visible, high-touch surfaces. PVD produces consistent, durable decorative finishes — chrome, gold, titanium nitride — without the environmental and handling concerns of traditional electroplating. Frequently specified for appliance trim, consumer hardware, and medical device exteriors.

Passivation (ASTM A967)

Required for stainless steel components in medical, food processing, and aerospace applications. Passivation removes free iron from the surface, restoring the chromium oxide layer that gives stainless its corrosion resistance. We coordinate passivation for 304 and 316L grades and provide material certification.

Electropolishing

For sanitary and cosmetic stainless steel surfaces — particularly medical device enclosures and food-contact components — electropolishing removes surface defects and produces a mirror-smooth, burr-free finish that resists bacterial adhesion and is easy to sterilize.

Zinc, Nickel & Chrome Plating

Functional plating for corrosion resistance, wear resistance, or dimensional buildup. We manage plating programs for structural fasteners, tooling components, and production parts requiring RoHS-compliant and non-RoHS chemistries.

In-House Deburring & Surface Prep

Before any part goes to finishing, it goes through our in-house deburring and surface preparation process. Macblast sand blast cabinets remove scale and oxide. Edge breaking and deburring ensure no sharp edges that would compromise coating adhesion or create a safety hazard.

Protecting the Surface Through Every Step

For Class-A cosmetic programs — brushed stainless appliance panels, visible trim, and high-gloss consumer surfaces — Our process controls are built around protecting that surface from the press to the shipping dock.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does "Class A Cosmetic" finish mean in metal stamping?

A “Class A” finish refers to the most highly visible, user-facing surfaces of a product (like the front panel of a high-end refrigerator or a luxury automotive dashboard trim). It requires zero visible defects, scratches, or tooling marks under specific lighting conditions. FKI USA specializes in engineering the tooling, handling, and finishing processes specifically to achieve and protect these pristine surfaces.

Does FKI USA provide EMI/RFI shielding for electronic enclosures?

Yes. We apply specialized conductive coatings to both metal and plastic enclosures to provide critical Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference shielding. We utilize advanced masking to ensure conductive materials only bond to designated internal zones, ensuring full compliance for IT and medical hardware.

Can you match custom brand colors and textures?

Absolutely. We provide custom color matching for both our automated wet paint and powder coating lines. We can also replicate specific surface textures, from high-gloss automotive finishes to soft-touch consumer electronic coatings and matte industrial ruggedized finishes.

Why is it beneficial to keep finishing and stamping with the same manufacturer?

Consolidating stamping, finishing, and assembly with FKI USA eliminates the logistical nightmare and transit risks of moving raw metal between multiple vendors. It prevents surface oxidation, reduces packaging waste, lowers your total unit cost, and ensures single-vendor accountability for the final cosmetic quality of your product.
